M3D1 Community Based Sanctions & Goals of Sentencing
Community-based sanctions are among the most widely used sentencing options and can include various types of sanctions. In this discussion activity, you will examine community-based corrections and the issues and challenges facing the same.
Identify at least three community-based sanctions which are utilized in South Carolina. Complete the following:
• Briefly describe each of the sanctions you selected.
• How does each of these sanctions relate to the various goals of sentencing of rehabilitation, deterrence, and incapacitation?
• Of the three sanctions you have identified, which best serves both the offender’s need for rehabilitation as well as the need of public safety?
