Read the Kamila Shamsie’s Home Fire, Chapters 4-6, pp.89-183. Then answer the folloing questions. This is Reading Strategy Documents (RSDs) consist of 4-5 factual and thematic questions about a reading assignment. RSDs are at the core of your practice for writing academic papers: identify themes; articulate arguments; sustain them with specific examples from the text, including at least two quotes from the source with references (MLA style).
Remember to:

1. Articulate your argument/idea

2. Illustrate you argument with an example or quote

3. Explain how/why it works.

Read the Kamila Shamsie’s Home Fire, Chapters 4-6, pp.89-183. Then answer the following questions

1. Find a passage from the chapters 4-6 in Home Fire that represents “sound” in some way, and analyze it for meaning. What is important about this expression of sound? Why might Shamsie be calling our attention to this sound?
2. Analyze Karamat Lone’s speech to the predominantly Muslim school in Bradford (bottom of page 89 to 90). What is he suggesting here? Why is this problematic?
3. Right after being tortured, Parvais reaches out to hold on to Farooq’s leg out of fear that Farooq will leave him, and Farooq offers Parvais an ice cream (page 140). What is important about these gestures? How does this help us understand Parvais’ state of mind (it will help to also consider the paragraphs before and after this passage)?
4. What happens to Parvais from the time he leaves the UK up to page 183? Don’t describe this, but analyze it.
5. What is your favorite passage in the play? Why?
