In Lab 17 you will apply many scientific skills that you‘ve acquired in Bio 204 and Bio 207—these skills range from making scientific observations to using laboratory equipment; from understanding controls and variables to manipulating variables to change the nature of an experiment; from data collection using software (e.g., MS EXCEL, IMAGEJ) to statistical data analysis; from writing in scientific format to analysis of scientific literature; and from hypothesis formulation and testing to experimental design. Lab 17 challenges you to use these lab skills creatively.
In Lab 17 you will use variables and controls of your own choosing to design a physiology experiment and collect experimental data using Powerlab and Lab Tutor.
You will demonstrate your scientific skills by demonstrating your ability to:
- Ask scientifically meaningful questions based on your understanding of physiology.
- Develop testable hypotheses related to these questions.
- Design an experiment that either allows you to test a hypothesis or hypotheses or to make observations that would lead you to future questions or development of a hypothesis.
- Collect data using Powerlab and Lab Tutor
- Analyze your data using statistics
