When talking about the social and political needs to support women working in maquiladoras, Aguayo states that “When you organize people, you must help them overcome the fear that is a key ingredient in any authoritarian society. […] people must realize that they have rights. The goal is to produce […] an external manifestation of an internal transformation that is spiritual, ethical, and political. It is like a revelation or liberation that occurs at the moment when someone interiorizes the fact that she is a human being, endowed with dignity and self-respect, and that she has to fight for that dignity to be recognized” (462).
