In a growing global marketplace, companies can provide products, services, and jobs that promote economic development around the world. However, as globalization has prompted firms to shift jobs abroad (offshoring or offshore outsourcing), some governments (and employees) have become increasingly concerned with protecting jobs and industries at home. Additionally, the past few years, the global economy has experienced a tightening of the global supply chain, impacting product availability and prices of goods, causing governments to question their reliance on foreign markets to supply goods and raw materials.
