Tears,” in Private Lives/Public Moments 2. Read: Stanton, Elizabeth Cady, “The
Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions.” There is a link in the revised schedule for
the library article. 3. Use the reading to answer one the following: a. Cherokee women
opposed assimilation to white social and legal systems. Why? Why did whites push for
assimilation? b. What are some of the grievances spelled out by Elizabeth Stanton and
some resolutions? How valid do you believe her argument and proposed resolutions
were and why? You do not have to submit a formal essay, but it does need to be at least
one well-developed paragraph. Use specific examples.
