For this assignment, you
will prepare a PowerPoint lecture for community college students that
summarizes the major theoretical explanations of substance-related and
addictive disorders. This allows you to demonstrate your understanding of these
theories and shows your ability to transmit your audience’s understanding via
the PowerPoint presentation medium. When developing your presentation, keep in
mind the audience—community college students. This may be their initial introduction
to the subject; so, keep it interesting, but avoid jargon that may be above
their understanding level. Be sure to utilize graphics and media other than
words to grasp your audience’s attention. A good presentation is not simply a
paper broken down into slides but a series of attention-grabbing slides with
bulleted key points accompanied by speaker notes to explain and illustrate
those points. Your slides should be firmly grounded in scholarly sources, and
these sources should be cited on your slides.
