Unethical behavior in my opinion is inevitable not just in law enforcement but in life. It is dependent on the individual and their morals and values if they are going to succumb to those behaviors. As it relates to law enforcement, I think we have all seen countless stories in which an officer or group of police officers are caught up in some unethical scandal, whether it be illegally collecting evidence, exchanging money in lieu of an arrest, or the most popular one; lying about something. I think it’s standard across police academy’s that the drill instructor repeatedly tells new recruits that lying will get you fired. Unfortunately, officers still make these decisions. I think some police officers are willing to risk their careers at any cost because they want to fit in so badly or desperately want a specialty positions.

In the film “Training Day”, you can see how quickly a straight edge, good cop like Hoyt’s character quickly went down the slippery slope and violated multiple policies and covered up all of Alonzo characters decision just so he can fit. Hoyt’s character constantly said out loud that he was not ok with the decisions they were making throughout the film, yet he still continued to stay in the car with Alonzo and follow suit. The peer pressure is a real thing and can easily be taken advantage of amongst police officers.
