Aesthetics Order Description Read Chapter 7 of Danto's Transfiguration of the Commonplace. In it, Danto writes: “The concept of expression can be reduced to the concept of metaphor when the way in which something is represented is taken in connection with the subject represented” (p. 197). First expound Danto's account of metaphor as clearly as you can and then explain how he links it to the concept of expression. Finally assess Danto's argument: do you think appealing to metaphor is the best way to understand artistic expression? Why or why not?
