Analysis ethnic

  This research project has two parts. The aim of this project is to apply what you learn in the class to understand the place you choose and analyze issues of culture and society, and spatial outcomes. Each student will be asked to select one concept as the entry point of analysis and then do fieldwork in Eugene. Specific questions about the project include: How are social structures and cultural formations spatially embedded in the place? Who are involved in the place, how are they involved, and for what purposes? How does Eugene’s geographic context shape social relations and cultural representations within the context of globalization? The final project report should be 4-5 double-spaced pages (1300-1600 words), including text, photographs or other materials you find relevant. This is an interpretive exercise: You may be as creative and imaginative as your abilities let you, but this is not a license to do shoddy work, or to evade the thrust of the assignment. A one-page project proposal should be submitted at the end of Week 5-2 lecture. The proposal should include the exact place you choose, the reasons to choose it, what category of social difference you are going to focus on, and a short paragraph to describe what you have found so far. Ｉ will add picture on my own after you give me the final paper. Ethnic difference People can be divided into different ethnic groups with different cultures. America is a diversified country. Lots of people are here, they come from different nations with different lifestyle. I did the research at the canteen named Hamilton about the students who come from different places. I want to know the more about the ethnic difference. There are many reasons that I choose Hamilton. International and exchange students are the big party in the school and the school had the new laws that all the freshman need to live in dorm. Therefore, canteen is an important place for all the students. Moreover, I already work there for two terms, I know more about the canteen than costumers not only for students but also for the workers and I can compare the situation with different times. I want to force on the clothes, food and human activities. If you saw a person, the first thing you will notice is the outward. Clothes the big element of the outward. I found the Asians usually wear more formal than others. American even wear pajamas to eat food. American loves freedom and they care more about the suitable. I know in some Asian country, students need to wear uniforms to school. In the canteen, food is the ‘protagonist’. There are four areas in the Hamilton with different food style. Compare with other three place, only a little bit Asians will went common ground cafe where only serve drink, ice cream and sandwich. The other place Asians won’t go is GK, people need to order and it also serve burger with fries, potato, but there also have the food as Scrambled eggs so more Asians than cafe. Last two place are always have many Asians. They serve the Burrito and Fried noodles. The biggest difference is that they have rice and noodle with different meats. We can see different ethnic group have different food culture. If I am mot busy, I would like to see the students’ activities. The big groups are always the American and blacks, Asians are quieter. Americans know how to enjoy the life. They usually come to get something to eat at night and enjoy the time with friends, we usually busy at night specially we almost to close. However, I think all the students from different countries are same, cannot get up at morning. We are always free at morning. Moreover, Compare with Asians, I think blacks can better integration within the Americans.
