Political Science 136, Religion and Politics Winter 2016 Professor Victor Magagna General Gui d el ines You will be fully responsible for hand ing in a hard copy o f your midterm essay and submitting an electronic version via the Turnitin link on T ed by 1pm on Friday, February 12, 2016 in the Price Center Theat er ( by 1pm ) . The Turnitin link will be available once the prompt is posted. You can upload your midterm essay whenever you are ready. It will remain available even after the deadline has pa ssed. Your essay will not be assigned a grade unless you upload the electronic version of the hard copy you hand in to the Turnitin.com via Ted and pass the check for plagiarism. The deadline for turning in your exam will be stri ctly enforced. The TAs wi ll be in the P rice Center Theater to collect your hard copy until the last second of the deadline. Unless you get a pre - arranged e xe mption from Professor Magana and send a notice to the collective TA email address listed on the syllabus prior the deadline, or you have a documented medical emergency as required by the university rule, you will not be given the e xception for the late exam. The late exam will be penalized at the rate of 1/3 letter grade per class since the deadline. Once you miss the deadlin e, you will b e able to give Professor Magana or the TAs a hard copy of your late essay in any of the subsequent classes. You cannot make any request of using your electronic version to substitute for the hard copy that you fail to bring to the class by the deadline. Plagiarism You must write your own exam, and it must be new. You may not use text that you have written for a previous assignment or for another class. You may not use text from the Internet or other sources without quoting and citing appropriately. Students who tu rn in plagiarized exams will not be given a final course grade and additional disciplinary s anctions may be pursued through the Academic Integrity Office . If you have questions about what constitutes plagiarism please ask the TAs and we will be happy to clarify. Exam Guide lines Responses should be 6 - 9 pages in length . This is a minimum length and will be strictly enforced. It refers to FULL pages of text and does not count pages with large amounts of white space, title pages (which are not necessary), bibliographies, large block quotes, or anything else that is not th e body or your original text. You may write more than this page minimum, but you will not receive extra credit for doing so. Please use Times New Roman (or similar), size 12 font, double spaced, 1 inch margins on all sides. DO indent at the beginning of e very paragraph. DO NOT skip lines between paragraphs. Be sure that your name and ID number are at the top of the first page of your exam Be sure to include a bibliography. There is no specific format required, but we must be able to find the source to whi ch you are referring. Only include sources that you have cited in the text. Use parenthetical in - text citations where appropriate (author name, year). Please cite a minimum of three sources. Two must be from class, and one of these two must be assigned r eading .
