Order Description
Topic: Christian Spirituality
Goal: To gain a basic understanding of some of the major tenants of Christian Spirituality. You
may chose 1 the following books for a 5 page book reflection.
Book 2: Sheldrake, Philip. A Brief History of Spirituality. Malden, MA: Blackwell Publishing,
2007 (or the newer edition)
Specific Criteria For Book Reflection:
1. Briefly introduce the book: its major thesis, outline, purpose, how it approaches
Christian Spirituality.
2. Identify and summarize the tenets of Christian Spirituality as seen in the
book, give evidence for i.e. examples, citations, etc.. from the text.
3. Respond to the identified tenets in light of 1 of the other class readings, i.e.
open a dialogue/ conversation between the two sources. Also, give some of
your own reflections on the identified tenets (Use 3rd person voice for your
reflections) This will be your concluding section.
Grading and Structure For Book Reflections:
This paper is to be 5 to 7 pages in length, 12 point font, double spaced, 1-inch margins. Please use the MLA format for organization and citation.
It must include:
1. A cover page including the Student’s name, Professor’s Name, Course title including section of course, i.e. section 02 or 03, date, and Paper title (including title
of the book)
2. Works cited. Which will include the book you are reflecting on and any other sources you consulted for this paper.
3. The body of the paper, 5-7 pages (papers exceeding 7 pages will be docked points)
