Classroom Management and Organization plan
Comprehensive Classroom Management and Organization Plan)
The purpose of the Comprehensive Classroom and Organization Plan is to reflect on one’s leadership and management style in order to develop a plan for effective classroom management and discipline. This assignment requires the skills of application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. It is your recipe for success! Research indicates that the quality of management during the first several weeks of school is a critical indicator of successful management throughout the remainder of the year (Emmer, Evertson, Clements, & Wordsham, 1994). Your Comprehensive Classroom Management and Organization Plan must be written in the first person. You must begin with an introduction that provides a rationale and philosophy. Please describe the grade level and other characteristics of the class or classes you teach. Continue by providing a descriptive paragraph on each of the different management competencies (3):
1. Covenant Management (Generally review your text for competencies in covenant management.)
2. Conduct Management (Generally review your text for competencies in conduct management.)
3. Content Management (Generally review your text for competencies in content management.) The following components must be addressed in detail with examples provided:
4. Establishment and teaching of classroom procedures (Provide specific examples, e.g. homework, transitions, dismissal, rest room, etc.)
5. Development and teaching of classroom rules, rewards, and consequences (How will you develop and teach?)
6. Prevention of problems (Proactive strategies; plan for the unforeseen)
7. Establishment of positive relationships (Review covenant management.)
8. Students with special needs (Provide examples on how you would work with students who have been identified as Exceptional Students.)
9. Students who do not speak English as their first language (What strategies will you use to create an optimum learning environment for this population of students?)
10. Students of varying ability levels (How will you address the needs of students who may lag behind in their ability to learn or those or those who have been identified as gifted?)
11. Socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, race, gender (Your plan must give consideration to these differences.)
12. Consideration of student interests, learning styles, and multiple intelligence (How will you motivate student learning, address learning styles and multiple intelligence? Provide some specific strategies.)
13. Home-school connection (Describe your methods for involving parents/guardians.)
Finally, select a student in the classroom who displays inappropriate behavior that interferes with learning. Develop a plan to modify the behavior. Be sure to define the behavior “operationally.” Be specific; do not say “aggression,” since aggression can include a variety of behaviors. Conduct a brief review of the literature relating to this target behavior to determine what has been successful in past circumstances. Develop a brief modification plan. State how you plan to collect data on this behavior, and how you plan to verify that your intervention is effective. Your Classroom Management & Organization Plan must include a strong conclusion that revisits the philosophy and rationale provided in your introduction. The following resources are appropriate for use:
• Selected chapters in the text
• Reliable Web sites on theorists
• Reliable Websites on learning styles and multiple intelligences
• Code of Ethics of the Education Profession (national and/or state)
• Class discussions and lectures
The graduate student is expected to organize the topics within the Comprehensive Classroom Management and Organization Plan in a logical and sequential manner. Headings and subheadings are advised. Sources must be cited and theories and theorists referenced. Specific points should be clarified stating examples or illustrations.
