Employment Law - Discrimination
Workplace discrimination is a subject area that involves the concept of "protected classes," such as age, gender, race, and nationality. Discrimination, as a general idea, is okay; for instance, an employer discriminates by deciding to hire a new employee who graduated college with a 4.0 instead of hiring someone whose GPA was only a 2.9. However, workplace discrimination (i.e., making any kind of employment-related decision) on the basis of a person's "protected class" status is illegal, unless very specific circumstances exist. The following video clip from the show, The Office, is intended to take a humorous look at how the concept of "age discrimination" can be misinterpreted.
