Research Synthesis Memorandum (40 points) Overview To facilitate the merging of research findings from the Report project, teams are responsible for composing a memorandum that synthesizes research findings from that project. The focus of the synthesis memorandum is communicating to your reader the “status” of your research. For example, you could comment on items such as: • General overview of research you have • General overview of research you don't have or rather need • Overlap between the team members’ prior findings • Contradictions, inconsistencies, or points of departure between team members’ prior findings • Interesting findings • Troubling findings • Specific plans for extending prior research When writing, you will do some general reporting, but most importantly, you need to comment on the implications of your synthesis. That is, the goal of the synthesis is not simply to do an inventory of prior findings. Rather, the goal also is to comment on how there is value/importance in the findings in terms of how they apply to social media policy recommendations, and but also how you will shore up areas of research that have less value/importance at presently constituted.
