Family Dynamics in Ancient Greek Literature
Family Dynamics in Ancient Greek Literature
Order Description
This is one of five essay prompts that I was given to prep for at home before the in-person final. This is an essay question that I have to write on a test by hand (2.5 pages on paper,) so it does not have to be long or dragged out; it needs to directly address the prompt.
1. Each of these should be a paragraph:
-Intro (Clear and strong thesis at the end)
-Family dynamics in Homer's Odyssey (with 1or 2 examples)
-Family dynamics in Hesioid's Theogony (with 1 or 2examples)
-Family dynamics in Aeschylus' Oresteia (with 1 or 2 examples)
-What do the relationships between parents and children and/or husbands and wives reveal about Greek culture?
2. Please note when writing: Essay with a clear and creative thesis (instructor is specifically looking for this; cite specific examples from the texts (direct quotes and page #s are not necessary); *situate the discussion in relation to Greek culture*
3. Prompt: To some extent, all of the literature we’ve read this term is about the family. Develop an essay in which you consider how family dynamics are portrayed in Homer’s Odyssey, Hesiod’s Theogony (the family of the gods) or Works and Days (Hesiod’s real or ideal human family), and Aeschylus’ Oresteia. What do the relationships between parents and children and/or husbands and wives reveal about Greek culture?
[You only need to discuss one of Hesiod’s works, so please discuss Theogony]
