In this regard, behaviorists emphasize on the changes exhibited by people as a result of stimulus-response attributions made by learners. In a classroom setting, educators around the world rely on effective use of this approach in order to facilitate learning. However, critics argue that this method does not yield desired outcomes; hence, they deem it as a negative approach to teaching. As a result, the use of behaviorism in classroom management is subject to debate in today’s world. Therefore, this paper seeks to delineate the implications of behaviorism approach in classroom management. To begin with, stimuli directs behaviorism. In this aspect, a learner is able to select a single response to a particular stimulus as a result of prior psychological conditioning. The common classroom stimuli include punishment and rewards (Dicke et al., 2015). An application of the behaviorist theory enhances positive reinforcements and thus ease the learning process. For instance, an instructor can be able to nurture a particular behavior through reinforcing it. Firstly, nurturing a behavior include identifying the desired behavior, determine the most appropriate reinforcers and finally breaking the learning into separate steps of which should be learned independently. To shape such a behavior, it is critical for the educators to reinforce the various stages separately until completion of the sequence. This is also referred to as behavior shaping. On the other hand, negative reinforcement is necessary for stopping undesirable behaviors in the classroom. Some actions can be used to cease annoying conducts in the classroom. When negatively reinforced, the irritable behavior ends up withering. Facial expressions and high intonation are some of the factors associate with negative reinforcements. Behaviorist proponents argue that such actions that stop a particular behavior eventually become habit forming. Similarly, punishments are deployed to suppress behaviors that mat ruins the learning process. Adequate punishment should be employed immediately after the annoying habits. Behaviorism may, however, take long to be effective since it needs a lot of time to be effected. On top of that, Dyson (2015) argues that behaviorism may cause positive implications to learners in the classroom. The literature identifies the fact that teachers may employ successful methods of stimulating and encouraging students to behave desirably in the classroom. For instance, it is imperative to identify the desirable behaviors required for each in the class. Consequently, Dicke et al. (2015) contends that educators outline them to the learners while also underscoring the possible repercussions when one fails to adhere to the requirements. As a result, the students are stimulated to evade instances of undesirable conduct while in the classroom (Dyson, 2015). For example, teachers rely on this stimulus to enact new policies that enhance learning through reduction of disruptors and uncouth behaviors. However, punishment in class might lead to negative implications (Dyson, 2015). In the case involving the student, he/she might be suffering from various psychological issues that prompt the bad classroom behavior. The use of punishment as a corrective measure against the student would lead to worsened behavior, which is a detrimental classroom management practice (Dicke et al., 2015). In this aspect, educators may employ counseling as an appealing approach to correcting the student’s conduct. Rather than punishing him/her, the teacher provides the student with a platform to share his/her attributes in order to assess the psychological reasons behind the comportment. Conclusively, behaviorism approach is a critical method of managing students’ behavior in a classroom setting. However, teachers should note that every approach has its best suited application, which defines its implications in administering the education environment. For this reason, it is imperative for educators to identify the possible measures that would yield positive response from learners. In this regard, education providers are encouraged to resolve the most appropriate behavioral stimulus that would encourage desired implications rather than develop undesirable actions.
