Hurricane Katrina, Challenger, and 9/11 disasters

The aim of the assignment is to examine and understand the nature and impact of the politics of crisis management. Crisis-induced accountability processes and crisis-induced learning processes reveal much about the politics of crisis management. A particular crisis may or may not experience the following aspects or outcomes after the operational phase of the crisis is over: • Investigations and publication of reports. • Damage to the careers and/or reputations of political leaders. • Boosts to the careers and/or reputations of political leaders. • Public policy changes or reforms. • Government institutional changes or reforms. Address the key aspects of crisis-induced accountability processes and crisis-induced learning processes for the Hurricane Katrina, Challenger, and 9/11 cases. Do not attempt to make systemic comparisons nor summarize the aspects of the case studies. Instead, for each case study you should: (1) Coherently analyze and explain the distinct aspect of that case study and (2) Explain how that case study makes a contribution to the crisis politics and crisis management framework that all the case studies center around. Include references to the case study chapters and other scholarly sources as necessary. .
