India Order Description   Globalization Case study selection: Calcutta,India. case study is a geographical unit (for instance, region, country, sub-national region, city, municipality, etc.) with a range of actors (for instance, corporations, governments, trade unions, gender, civil society organisations, etc.) populating it. Relate theories (The Hyperglobalisation Thesis, The International Sceptics, The Complex Globalisation Thesis) Individual Assignment: Essay/Report The essay/report is summatively assessed. Students must submit an essay or report of maximum 2.500 words (see just below for the nature of the task). Task: What has been the impact of globalisation. And how has it been responded to (3 actors)? Answer drawing on relevant theories and in a case study. This case study is a study of a geographical unit (for instance, a region, country, sub-national region, city, municipality, etc.) with a range of actors (for instance, corporations, governments, trade unions, gender, civil society organisations, etc.) populating it. This is not a case study of a business! What we are expecting!!!!!!!!!!!!!! • You should explain how different theories approach globalisation providing empirical evidence using your case studies. • You can have a theoretical argument. The argument needs to be stated in the introduction/abstract. • Your ability to critically develop presenting and criticising the other relevant theories will be positively evaluated à critical skills necessary in order to have a very high mark. • Relegation of theories in only one part of the report will be penalised!!! • You cannot generically refer to global changes just providing some generic data without explaining their importance and their relation to theories and specific actors. • Generic arguments and descriptive paragraphs will be negatively evaluated. • You should narrow down your examples à the ability to narrow down the report will be positively evaluated. • You should focus on specific sets of actors explaining in depth how, in your specific case study, the globalisation impacted on them and how they responded to the new circumstances generated by the presence of globalisation processes. • You should consider influences/results on different sectors. • Responses elaborated by these actors need to be considered in different sectors and in relation to other actors or actors' responses/exigencies generated by the globalisation process.
