Law - European Union
Order Description
evaluate the purpose and legal functions of principal institutions of the European Union To what extent do these institutions address the perception of a democratic deficit within the EU?
identify the principal EU institutions and assess their individual purpose, composition, function and status within the overall EU structure. A description of each principal institution is recommended, coupled with a critical analysis of each institution’s purpose and legal function. This should form the majority of your assignment. You can also refer to other less important institutions but you should be aware of the overall word count.
provide a brief historical description of the evolution of the EU and the Treaties, but such description should be limited.
When describing the institutions you should also give a description of the legal basis for each institution and, where relevant, an institution’s legal function. You should also describe how the institutions engage with EU law and the different sources of EU law.
In addressing the concept of a perceived democratic deficit, you should discuss what evidence exists to support this point of view. However it is important to remember that you are not being asked to provide a political analysis of the EU. Any discussion of a perceived democratic deficit should be confined to an analysis of the EU institutions and the application of EU law.
