Order Description Assignment 1: Professional Role Development Points Nursing Philosophy Write your personal nursing philosophy in two paragraphs incorporating the following into your narrative: • Your values, passion, goals for nursing, what nursing is and what it means to you• Explain how one of the ANA* Standards of Performance (7-16) applies to your values, passion, goals (one para, 5 points) *Note: in order to earn full credit, you must cite one of the Standards from the ANA found in the appendix of your textbook Written in first person. Word count: 125-150 words /15 Application of ANA Standards of Practice You will be applying the ANA Standards of Practice (1-6) to a practice situation. In 2-3 sentences, state which chronic disease (1 point) you will apply to a patient in a particular setting (acute, chronic or community) (1 point) Note: Answer the following for each ANA Standard (each standard is worth 3 points): 1. A career goal can be a different nursing role or advanced nursing degree, or it can also be the best nurse you can be. Include the following in your response: 1. State your career goal(s) . Describe at least 3 actions you will take to accomplish your goal(s) .These three actions will take place following the completion of the BSN program. Only one action can be associated with continuing education, such as certification or master’s degree. Be creative, find unique ways to prepare yourself for reaching your goals. /10 Professional Nursing Role Select a professional nursing role you are interested in for your career someday or one you are simply interested in learning more about. This would be a role you would find in a job advertisement, such as a Diabetic Nurse Educator, school nurse, or Forensic Nurse. Answer the following four sections about this role: 1. Nursing Role: definition and skills a. Define the role (2 points) b. Describe (not just list them) four (4) skills required for this role (2 points each, total 8 points) These skills need to be unique to the role and described according to your role. For example, if you choose communication for a school nurse, (briefly) differentiate/explain the type of communication associated with student, faculty, administrators, etc. Consider sharing an example to explain the skill. Discussing the skill broadly, with no application to the role, cannot earn full credit. 2. Strengths and Weaknesses a. Strengths: Choose two (2) skills from the skills section above that you currently have to support this role. Share an example for each skill showing how well you have mastered each skill in practice. Include in your response how you can further strengthen these skills (4 points each, total 8 points) b. Weaknesses: Choose one (1) skill from the skills section above in which you need to improve. Briefly state one action you can take to improve this weakness (2 points) 3. ANA Standards of Performance Identify two (2) ANA Standards of Performance (7-16) that are important elements to this role. a. Discuss how/why each standard applies to this role. b. Share an example of how a nurse in this role can incorporate this standard in one’s practice. As with the skills, be sure to identify in your response why these two standards are unique to this role. Discussing the standard broadly cannot earn full credit 4. Summary and Reflection a. Summarize what you have learned about this role. b. Reflect on the role and discuss how aspects of the role fit in with your philosophy or career goals. Include content from the three previous role sections in your response (10 points) This last role section is not a summary of the entire role, do not simply repeat content from previous sections. Do not share new scholarly info in this section.
