Persuasive/informative speech

  Select a topic, research, organize and present a 5-8 minute Persuasive presentation. Each student must complete a typed outline and bibliography, with a minimum of 3 sources. FORBIDDEN TOPICS INCLUDE: Abortion, blood/organ donation, marijuana legalization, drunk driving, texting while driving, traveling to another country, and smoking cessation. I would appreciate it if the topic selected is in Nutrition Outline Format for Informative /Persuasive Speeches Specific Purpose: “To inform/persuade my audience...” Central Idea: (A complete sentence stating the 2-3 main points of the speech.) Introduction: Attention getter: (Ask a question; tell a joke or an anecdote) Reveal the Topic: (Tell us what you intend to speak about) Establish Your Credibility: (What qualifies you to speak on a subject?) Preview of Main points: (Tell us what the 2-3 main points of the speech are) CONNECTIVE: (Ex: Let’s get started, my first main point is, etc.) I. Main point typed here… A. Example, story, or testimony B. Statistic shown on graph or chart C. Oral Citation CONNECTIVE: (Link the 1st main point to the 2nd: Ex.: Now that I have told you about “X”, I’ll discuss “Y.”) II. Main point typed here… A. Example or testimony B. Oral Citation C. Story CONNECTIVE: (Link the 2nd main point to the 3rd. main point. Ex.: In addition to this, let’s take a look at the final reason for “Z.”) III. Main point typed here… A. Example, story, or testimony B. Oral Citation Conclusion Signal the end of the presentation: (Finally, In Summary, In conclusion, To wrap up...) Reinforce the Central Idea: (Recap the main points) “Big Bang” Ending: (Quote, startling statistic, rhetorical question, refer to the introduction, etc…) Works Cited Page: This page must be in MLA format. A minimum of 3 sources must be cited both orally and on paper. Failure to submit a works cited page along with your outline will result in an automatic “F” as your grade.
