It is difficult to imagine that a child can be unable to engage in active play. Unfortunately, some children are limited in games and actio0ns because of disabilities. It is necessary to notice that active play is one of the main possibilities to develop motor skills of any child. Active playing in a group of peers also causes social and cognitive development of the children. Play is very important in life of any child and this is one of the rights of child. It is a vehicle of communication, a possibility to participate in social life of group of peers, a way to learn, and master new skills. Play is a right of any child; according to Boucher, Downing and Shemilt (2014), “any child must be provided with opportunities to play, access leisure opportunities, interact with siblings and friends, and participate in normal childhood activities” (p 2). Every normal child needs to develop the motor skills. Willingham (1999) states that the hind portion of the frontal lobe controls motor function, and this is the reason why motor function develops much quicker than logic (p. 180). If a child cannot take active part in playing, it can lead to inhibition of motor development, breaking of necessary skills, and such children are late in starting walking, rolling, sitting up and even talking. Limit of moving can lead also to problem of overweight, blood pressure, problems with the heart and other serious illnesses. Motor development is coming from balance, coordination to anticipation of other’s actions and decision making. First a child learns to take a toy, then, he moves it, if a toy makes noise, he repeats this action to receive the same result again. This way a child demonstrates combination of motor skills with cognitive development. He analyzes that moving provoked noise or music and it is necessary to move a toy to hear it again. Later, child is able to make more difficult analyze, he compares sizes of objects, their structure and is able to make more difficult actions, like making a pyramid or There is dependence between motor development and development of cognitive skills. If a child has motor disabilities, parents must combine motor actions with elements of play and learning at the same time. The capacity to learn, remember and analyze information starts with motor activities. According to Vygotsky (1978), “child wants to occupy his mother’s role and this desire appears in very early age” (p 93). The repetition of actions of parents and other adults is one of mechanisms of learning. Such repetition is one of simple plays, when child gives food to dolls and bears or make them sleep. Repeating of motor actions is a way of learning of social roles and one of ways of cognitive development. Vygotsky states that many theorists “often describe a child’s development as the development of his intellectual functions” (p 92). However, it is proved that during the most important period, the early development of child, motor development is inseparable from cognitive and social development. Cognitive development either depends on genetic factors, but daily experiences, environmental factors, parents’ responsiveness, and physical activity are called the main factors that influence cognitive development. As for social development, the main factor that influences it is the experience, and the role of parenting is the main in forming the rules of social behavior. However, the role of parents is predominant in early age; when child grows up, he needs active communication with peers. The play of children of school age gives pleasure of winning, and in this age child starts to develop the will, and he becomes motivated with the result. Sport games are especially important in early school age because of its positive effect on social development. Even a child with disabilities can play a ball. Such games give a lot of positive emotions, and stimulate interest to communication with other children. Active play often takes place on fresh air that also gives very positive effect on health. Very often parents try to limit children’s participation in active play, if a child is ill. However, even if a child needs special treatment, it is not a reason for such limitation. If a child cannot walk because of illness, he still can and must participate in children’s activities as much as he can. According to Berger (2008), “the children with disabilities must have access to general curriculum, participate in learning process, and communicate with peers” (p. 247). There are many programs that permit children to have necessary activities and communication, like creation of less restrictive environment. The development of child of any age is very important, and thinking about intellectual or cognitive development of child, parents do not need to forget about development of motor skills in any age. The development of all sides of child is predominant task for parents and educators that must create available conditions for active play, as necessary part of happy childhood.
