? Displaying critical thinking and application of quality management principles, concepts and tools is important to a good mark
? It is very important that you display critical thinking to interpret the data and the graphs to suggest a way forward.
? Calculating the data and drawing the graphs may get you a pass, but to get a top mark you need to display critical thinking and think practically. The word count does not have to be distributed evenly between the questions. Hopefully, question 1 gets you going in the right direction. Question 3 is where the biggest opportunity to display your understanding and practical application of quality management principles, concepts and tools. A consultant has to suggest how to improve the quality of the items made.
? As a consultant, you were not there when the sowing was done, but that doesn't mean that you cant talk to whoever did the sowing. Many of you have been sowing at some stage so what happened when you had to learn sowing new stuff? For example, I am sure the one teaching you sowing thought the instructions were straight forward. Now you have the opportunity to think in terms of quality management principles, concepts, tools and techniques too explain how identify what to improve and perhaps how to improve.
? Question: Do I need to use the sporting jacket data?
? The assessment Hi-Sport Manufacturing Co. case and tasks are described in the course textbook on page 352 to 355, but the assessment is modified in that a c-control chart is to be created for a pair of ski pants. You do not need to use the sporting jacket information in the case. You are to create a c-control chart for ski pants production just started at Hi-Sport Manufacturing
? Question: Where are the case tasks listed?
? The case tasks are numbered SPC exercise: 1, 2 and 3 on page 353 in the course textbook and PDF listed above.
? Question: how do I identify what to do next as listed in task 3?
? Assume you are the consultant guiding Hi-Sport Manufacturing Co. improve the manufacturing quality of the ski pants.
? What would you like to know?
? How are you going to acquire that knowledge?
? Question: Are there typing errors in the textbook?
? Yes, there are some unfortunate typing errors in the textbook.
? You are indeed required to calculate LCLc (and not LCLt as stated in question 1, p.353). This becomes clear on the next page in the textbook p.364.
? Regarding the UCLc calculation example on the middle right on p.339 in the textbook. With the 'total number of defects/number of samples' = 47/30 ~ 1.56667.
? The UCLc is approximately 5.32167 and not 4.32167 as listed.
? Question: In what tool do I create the c-control chart?
? You are required to create graphs in assessment 2. I recommend the use of Microsoft Excel in this context, but you can also create them by hand on paper and then scan them and paste them into Microsoft Word. Microsoft Excel tables and graphs can be entered into a Microsoft Word document.
? Question: How many references should I include in my academic arguments?
? The key to a good mark is that you are able to write good arguments for your answers to the questions. An argument can for example incorporate facts or examples from texts provided in the course or other academic journals you find relevant.
? I have deliberately not included a fixed requirement for a number of mandatory references, but ensure that you references the textbook. If you have 1 to 2 additional references to support your argumentation then I would consider that ok. The key is that your answers to the assessment questions are well supported by relevant literature and that you know how to apply the required reference style.
? Question: What is the appropriate submission format?
? The expected assessment format is question and answer.
? Front page with the following minimum information: course name and number, assessment number and name of the assessment, student name and number.
? •Question 1
? •Question 2
? •Question 3
? •References
? •Appendices (if appropriate)
