Sociology of Latina/os
Autumn 2015
TestimonioGuidelines
As part of the requirements for this course, each student will write her/his own testimonio. Think of your testimonio as a personal, biographical narrative which recounts selected elements from your life story. Use the testimonios in Telling to Live and the personal narratives in Muy Macho and from Canvas as models/examples.
In this five page paper, you will apply your sociological imagination to your own personal biography.
Questions to consider in writing your testimonio (personal biographical narrative):
• What sociological factors have shaped your life?
• How do your experiences parallel and differ from the testimonio from Telling to Live as well as other Latina/os narratives we read in the course?
• How can you apply the sociology of Latina/os to your life?
Your testimonio may take the form of a formal paper, or a series journal/diary entries, or a spoken word performance, or a multimedia presentation. If you choose one of the alternative project (journal, spoken word, multimedia) you must submit a three page narrative explaining how the project reflects your testimonio.
