Due date (Week 9 - in class, after the break, late penalty, 10% per day, turnitin submission required) While preparing your second report pay special attention to providing connections between each section. I.e. how do you go from section 2.1 to 2.2? Provide a connecting sentence immediately after your conclusions from section 2.1 to inform the reader why section 2.2 is relevant and why it follows section 2.1. Use proper referencing techniques. All necessary diagrams (distributions for the tests) can be drawn either in a program (paintbrush, smartdraw, photoshop etc.) or simply by hand and scanned into the text. You will be required to submit only the word file (hard copy). For all tests of hypothesis use a=0.05 and show the distribution, the null, alternative, critical value and conclusion using the relevant distribution. For all equations you intend to present use word’s equation editor. I will be discussing the questions you have to answer and provide you with hints in class in week 8 (this week). 1) The Problem at Hand You were just hired by the UOWD marketing department to take over promoting the University and attracting new undergraduate students to the University. You have a difficult task ahead of you as the competition in the UAE is high with numerous good institutions, both private and public, competing for students. You have information on the performance of both UOWD graduates as well as UAE graduates from a sample that was collected by UOWD University as well as the relevant authorities for other universities in the country. You know that in the UAE the average earnings of graduates, 1 year after completion of their degrees, is $ 25489.9 annually with a standard deviation of 3129.58 and that 66% of all UAE University graduates are employed one year after graduation. The data for both the UAE as well as UOWD is presented in an excel file and it was available to you upon taking up the position. Prepare a summary analysis to the president of the University detailing proposed strategies that conform to the results that you retrieved from your analysis. 2) Detailed description of project sections 1. (12 Marks-Use table 1) Use table 1 which contains data for a sample of UAE graduates (annual earnings in US dollars for 50 graduates from each department) and provide tables and discussion/conclusions on: a. the necessary descriptive statistics, b. frequency distributions for the earnings by department and for “all” UOWD graduates as well, c. appropriate confidence intervals and 2. (13 Marks- Use table 1) Conduct an ANOVA test to see if there are differences in the earnings between UOWD graduates from different departments. Use α=0.05 and clearly show the null hypothesis, the alternative hypothesis under the F-distribution, your critical value and your conclusions. 3. (15 Marks- Use tables 1 and 2) Compare the “overall” results for the whole university with those of the UAE in total (overall – not by department). Is there enough evidence to suggest that UOWD has higher earnings that the remainder of the UAE? Choose the proper test you need to employ, use a=0.05 and show the distribution the null and alternative, the critical value and your conclusion. Discuss your conclusions. 4. (15 Marks -Use tables 1 and 2) Compare the variability of earnings between UOWD graduates (overall – not by department) and UAE graduates (overall – not by department). Use a=0.05 and show under the relevant distribution the null and alternative, the critical value and your conclusion. 5. (15 Marks-Use tables 1 and 2) You noted that there is a difference in the variability of earnings between “Quality” graduates and “All other” majors in total. Compare the “Quality” (Category 1) graduates of UOWD with “all other” (Category 2) graduates in UOWD. Use a=0.05 and show the distribution the null and alternative, the critical value and your conclusion. Perform the same comparison for the rest of the UAE. Discuss your conclusions. 6. (15 Marks- use Table 3) Before you report your results and adopt policy you want to make sure that the differences and conclusions you observed are not due to socioeconomic differences in the pool of graduates from UOWD vs the rest of the UAE. Table 3 presents you with data related to the employment status of graduates and family size one year after graduation. a. Is the size of the family related to the employment status for UOWD graduates? For UAE graduates? Use a chi-square test and a=0.05 to test if the number of children is related to the employment status. Show on the distribution the null and alternative hypothesis and the critical value. Discuss your conclusions. Perform the same comparison for the UAE. b. Use a test for proportions to examine whether the percentage of employed UOWD graduates is more than the percentage of UAE graduates. 7. (15 Marks) Prepare a thorough 1-2 page summary of your results and your suggestions for policy.
