Presentation
1.5 line spacing, 11 font size..
Present your text using the third person (i.e. avoid using “I”, “we” and “you” throughout the essay).
Any reference provided in the text needs to be listed again in the reference list (read the guideline on referencing below)
Comment on Referencing:
You are required to cite scholarly journal articles and documents from established resources. Examples of established resources are university research centres, government or non-government research bodies, such as the Reserve Bank of Australia or Certified Finance Analyst (CFA) Institute. Hint: use Google Scholar instead of Google as your search engine.
Referencing should be provided using the Harvard system (Author-Date system). In-text references are inserted in the essay and a reference list is required at the end of the essay.
It is important to stay consistent when referencing. For example: if you use a comma after the author’s name, before the year for in-text references (e.g. Fleet, 2006), then the chosen format should be consistent throughout the essay. The same rule applies for the reference list. If you quote Fleet, 2006 in the essay, you need to provide the details for Fleet, 2006 in the reference list. For example: Fleet, W., Summers, J., & Smith, B., 2006, Communication Skills Handbook for Accounting, 2nd Edition, Milton, Queensland.
To avoid plagiarism, it is required to paraphrase other authors’ ideas using your own words and then provide the reference at the end of the sentence. If you use other authors’ ideas word by word, you need to quote them directly in your text by using quotation marks and then provide the reference at the end of the sentence.
Think of me as the chief executive of Jet Koala Blue. You are the new HR manager. You want to impress the chief executive with your analysis of the situation, but also your recommendations to fix the viability of the organisation from a HR perspective.
Remember, chief executives are busy people - this one in particular would be quite stressed with the finances and other issues this situation may bring...so ensure you deliver concise information and if they need more detail...you provide this, but not slabs of information in the report (hint - how else can you do this? - perhaps attachments??).
Some useful information to keep asking yourself "Have I given my chief executive all the information they need to solve the problem?" "Have I given them good recommendations based on sound analysis and evidence?"
There may also be other questions you keep asking yourself. It may also be useful to put yourself in the role of the chief executive and think about what you would like to see in a report coming forward to you.
