Transportation issues in Irvine, Orange County- Urban Issue Analysis
Your final paper is a more in-depth analysis of the urban issue you chose to study. This requires you to build on your quantitative data and/or
literature review and the ethnographic data you collected- In this final paper, you Will conduct a more refined analysis on your urban issue by
providing new insights based on your ethnography. As part of this final paper, you will also either 1-) Propose more research needed to better
understand the issue and/or 2-) Propose policy recommendation to address this issue-
a) Present your refined or revised problem statement (3/4 of a page to 1 page in length) based on the ethnography you conducted- This problem
statement can build on the midterm proposal you submitted or be completely new given your ethnography.
b) Draw on quantitative data/reports (3-4 sources) and/or academic literature (3-4 sources) books or peer-reviewed journal articles) to critically
examine your urban topic/issue in greater depth- Review and synthesize these academic pieces- Chances are some of these Will be the same as for
your proposal but it could be that your ethnography leads you to redo this entire section- Regardless of which approach you take, make sure this
section includes at least two new additional resources that demonstrate your growth in this topic from the midterm paper (2-3 pages in length-)
c) Tell us What you learned With your ethnography and how such data collection can provide greater insight about your urban issue- What you have
are preliminary findings - a real ethnography would require substantial more time and a lot more fieldnotes to do a thorough analysis- Here, tell us
how your ethnographic observations eliminated aspects of your urban issue and/or What questions your observations raised for you about this
issue- This requires you to revisit your fieldnotes, do some analysis and synthesize these observations (2-3 pages in length)-
d) Propose either future research or policy recommendations ('/2 a page in length)
i) What future research is needed to better understand this issue? Provide examples of the Kinds of studies that can be conducted, or,
ii) What planning or public policies might help address your issue of concern? Provide examples of a possible policy or policies to address this issue-
e) Optional: Appendix: new tables, graphs, etc-
